Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday Celebrations

This week was Shrove Tuesday, and Ash Wednesday.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Tuesday) falls 47 days before Easter. The day is always followed by Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent, whereby Christians traditionally fast.

Before this occurs, families would prepare to fast by using up all the ingredients in their kitchen, so there was no temptation. Food would usually consist of eggs, milk and flour – the stapes needed for a good pancake!

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, our Primary students received a pancake, and Years 7 & 8 in Secondary were provided a pancake with the option to purchase additional toppings for $1 to raise money for Project Compassion. Primary students were encouraged to bring a gold coin donation.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday officially marks the beginning of Lent.

Lent is a 40 day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration.

At 7:30am Parliament and Youth Ministry students attended a Mass at the Parish, and received the ashes.

We held a special liturgy in the Hall, with a live stream going to all Primary classes, and our Secondary students distributing ashes to the Primary students in class.
