MacKillop Catholic College embraces and celebrates students from all backgrounds and age groups. Our Youth Ministry programs have been designed to assist students in their journey of identity, purpose, self-love and community.
Students from Years 6 to 8 are invited to be a part of the Edge Youth Group which meet on the fourth Sunday of each month. This program involves Mass in the church, followed by a social discussion about various topics and dinner. The purpose of Edge Youth Group is to provide a fun and safe place for youth to find a solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Primary students who would like to participate are invited to attend a group meeting at any point throughout the year.
Students from Years 9 to 12 form the College’s Youth Ministry. These students attend a Learning to Lead retreat to develop their leadership skills at the beginning of the year. This enables them to use all of their various strengths and talents in order to run sporting, ministry and informative workshops at events throughout the year, such as the Year 6 Transition Day and Spirituality Days for Years 8-9. On a College level, they assist in the running of liturgies, Masses and information days.
All Secondary students are invited to attend any of the myriad of Diocesan events available to them, such as Praisefest and Youth Ministry training days with leaders from other Broken Bay schools. Some of the exciting, large-scale events coming up include World Youth Day in Panama and the Australia Catholic Youth Festival in Western Australia, both in 2019. Secondary students interested in getting involved in any of these activities are welcome to see Mrs Reynolds (Youth Ministry Leader).
