Rosie selected for ArtExpress

21 Feb 2020
Students

Last week the ArtExpress exhibition was officially opened during a ceremony at Hazelhurst Gallery in Sydney. ArtExpress showcases the outstanding work of more than 50 Visual Arts students selected from the 2019 Higher School Certificate practical examination.

One of MacKillop’s very own was selected for this exhibition: Rosie’s work “e-living” is a mixed media piece, created on paper of foam core and soundscape.

An appropriation of Jenny Holzer’s work, “Living”, Rosie’s creation “is an encapsulation of the world’s consumerism, competition for attention, social media addiction, the implications of the use of AI (artificial intelligence) within social media, and the anxiety felt by its users. The soundscape was inspired by the loud, anxious, soul sucking, time wasting feeling, often created by social media. The soundscape incorporates a number of layers of sound including: message tones, a large crowd, ticking clock, recordings of electrical interference and a dial up tone.”

We are so proud of Rosie and congratulate her on this significant acknowledgement.
