Yesterday, our Year 10 cohort spent the day with the team from Coast Shelter as part of the LOVE BiTES annual program. The facilitators delivered part of the PDHPE syllabus on Respectful Relationships. This is a national program that focuses on teaching young people about respectful relationships, consent, and the prevention of domestic and family violence and has been running on the Central Coast of New South Wales since 2008. It delves into topics such as relationship boundaries, communication, gender stereotypes, and healthy conflict resolution. It emphasises the importance of consent and understanding what constitutes a healthy relationship in a way that our Year 10 students are able to engage with.

There was also a special acknowledgement and presentation for Charlotte, currently inYear 11. After participating in last year’s event, she created a painting for the LOVE BiTES Art competition and won a People’s Choice Award.

Both LOVE BiTES and MCC aim to empower our young people to recognise signs of relationship violence and take action to prevent it.
