Ash Wednesday and Welcome Mass K – 12

Today our College came together for our Welcome and Ash Wednesday Mass. Our students in Years 4 to 12 attended the Steve Aitkin Hall in a Mass led by Father Philip and Sr. Jiji.  Many of our student leadership and youth ministry were involved and accompanied by our MCC choir and band in this service in which we observed the start of the Lent season. In Father Philip’s homily he asked the students to go slowly. By slowing down, we can truly see our friends and family, and by slowing down, we can be grateful and marvel at the wonder of everything around us. Ash Wednesday signals a time to repent for things we may have done wrong, renewal, and giving, so we may walk closely in God’s path.

Our students showed exceptional reverence as they received their ashes, demonstrating a deep respect for the significance of the day. It was a powerful start to the year and to the Lenten season, with the students’ participation truly embodying the spirit of Ash Wednesday at MacKillop.

In the Church, our Kindergarten and Years 1 to 3 took part in their own service led by Mrs Power.

The Kindergarten to Year 3 students gathered for a beautiful Ash Wednesday liturgy led by Father Joshy and the Head of Primary, Kerry Power. The liturgy focused on the themes of repentance, renewal, and the significance of Lent. Children participated with reverence as they received their ashes, symbolising their commitment to growing closer to God. The meaningful ceremony was a wonderful way for the younger students to begin their Lenten journey with reflection and prayer.
