Term 2, Week 3

Dear Community,

Fifth Sunday Gospel Account

“Love one another as I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13: 31-33a, 34-35. Everyone is aware of the Ten Commandments rooted in the Old Testament. Jesus came to live, die, and rise again as a sign that if we do sin, even gravely against one of the Ten Commandments that all is not lost. If we repent, we are forgiven. Moreover, Jesus left us with one more commandment – a new commandment. Quite simply is to love one another as I have loved (modelled) for you. If we care and show concern and value others, then we would have no time to hurt or cheat or lie to them. When we love each other, we are loving God.

NAPLAN is Underway

Yesterday Year 3 and 5 began their NAPLAN journey completing the Writing paper. Today Year 5 are doing the online Reading paper and both Year 3 and 5 will do Language Conventions, followed by Year 3 Reading and finally Numeracy for both. This will be conducted over a two-week period. The students have been very well prepared. Parents can help by ensuring children are well nourished and rested before each paper.

Mother’s Day Liturgy and Open Rooms

It was wonderful to welcome back into the school playground and rooms so many parents, especially our beautiful mums. We do hope you were spoilt. We will be looking for more opportunities throughout the year to open rooms for you to see learning in action.

Lion King Kids – The Musical

The children are beavering away in readiness for our first ever Primary School Musical to be hold on June 15 and 16. Ticket details will follow soon, get in early or you may miss out. We are certain that the children will follow in the footsteps of the Secondary students who knocked Madagascar out of the park.

STEM Video Game Challenge is Building Great Momentum

Dozens of Stage 3 students have been working diligently each Friday with librarians on developing coded games. The application to task and the discoveries being made along the way are really something to admire. Well done to all involved.

Run MacKillop Run

Congratulations to all the students who represented the school at the recent Central Coast Cross Country Carnival. There were some outstanding results on the day with multiple children moving on to the next level at the Diocesan Carnival. In particular, Scarlett Clark (Under 11 Girls) and Rahni Deeley (Under 12 Girls) both finished 3rd in their events and will receive a special medallion at this week’s school assembly. Both will move through along with Carter Hill (Under 8’s), Lillian Weary, Amelia Smith and Cameron Falconer (Under 9’s), Georgia Harris, Lara Murphy, Teleah Green, Charlotte McDonald and Lochie Farrugia (Under 10’s) and Claudia Alcock (Under 12’s).

Cricket Sports Continues

Specialist Cricket coaches are at the school every second Friday teaching cricket skills to the Year 1 – 6 students. The children this far have been challenged and are enjoying the technical side of the game.

I will give an overview to parents in face or via Zoom if your unable to join. Tash will also speak about her family liaison role and the parent education programs currently running or will soon be in operation.

Assembly

There will be no Primary assembly this Friday.

Year 7 Taster Day

This Friday our current Year 6 students will join with other Year 6’s from around the area and participate in a Year 7 taster day. Science and PDHPE focus as well as other fun activities are planned.

Enrolments 

We have very limited places in four of the seven grades for immediate enrolment now. We have had children move out of the area and we have now placed our wait listers. This is a limited opportunity so let those who are interested the time is to act now.

Kindergarten 2023 Enrolment

Families who already have students at the school and wish for their child to be enrolled in kindergarten next year need to act now! Siblings only enrolment window will close in 2 weeks! I am not exaggerating when I say we are full! We usually close Kindergarten enrolments at the end of May, but this will need to be brought forward as early as next week as the places are taken.
